Introduction
Buying online is fast becoming the preferred mode of shopping for consumers everywhere. Shopping online is quick, convenient and allows for easy price comparison. The growth in this industry has attracted entrepreneurs from all fields to the realm of online retail. This is no surprise, an online store can be opened for a fraction of the price of a brick and motor establishment and once setup can be considerably easier to run.
What experience is required, if any?
You dont need any specific qualifications to be an online retailer. Initially youll be responsible for ever facet of your store including uploading products, handling sales and marketing. Any experience in sales and or marketing is helpful.
Web design and development skills arent necessary to open a store, although any experience is helpful. If you can use an online email account, operate a digital camera and make your way around a Play Station menu youll be able to run an online store.
Choosing an idea
Choosing what type of store to start is an important first step. A natural choice is to choose an industry you already have experience or connections in. No matter what you choose its recommended that you thoroughly research and plan your entry, compiling a traditional business plan is recommended.
Testing the waters with a pay per click (PPC) campaign is an excellent way to determine market demand and advertising competition. To setup an effective test campaign using Google Adwords or Yahoo Overture, pick a representative sample of products your store might sell. Setup a campaign to run over a week and test various different ads at different times of the day. To keep within Google and Yahoos terms of service agreement you might have to setup a one page site, sign up to an affiliate program that sells the products youre testing just in case someone does decide to buy.
Finally consider the supply side of your new idea. Getting accounts with suppliers as a new store can be very tricky. Some suppliers are also hesitant to supply to online only stores. Find out who the major suppliers are in your area and make contact with them before making a final decision on your new store. Find out which suppliers deliver and whether you have to meet a monthly order minimum.
Getting the ball rolling
Before setting up your online retail store youll need an office to run your business from. Ensure you have enough space to handle plenty of orders. Since youll be online for much of your work day, a powerful computer and a high speed internet connection is essential. Although your store is likely to be automated youll still be spending plenty of time on the phone, invest in a headset and consider a VOIP (Voice Over IP) service such as Vonage if you live in the U.S.
There are numerous online retail options to consider. Do extensive research into each and choose the one that best suits your budget, business goals and skill set.
On a shoestring with skills
If you are a web developer or designer and are familiar with XHTML, CSS and PHP you might consider building your own website and using an open source shopping cart program such as osCommerce or its offshoots Zen Cart and CRE Loaded. This is the serious shoe string route and has its downsides, browse the forum posts on the os commerce site and decide if youre up for the challenge.
On a shoestring without skills
If however you are like the rest of us, without programming skills youll need to take a different route. Hiring a web developer to build you a complete store can be very expensive but it doesnt have to be. Consider buying a ready made store such as those found at e commerce templates.com. These stores are basic template websites with a shopping cart already build in. If you have a basic understanding of html you can customize it site yourself, alternatively hire a freelancer from a service such as Elance to do it for you. Using this method you could start an online retail store for less than $500 (USD), including a domain name and hosting.
Not on a shoestring
If start-up capital isnt a problem life is certainly much easier. Do research on shopping cart software using a site like Shopping Cart Reviews.com. Once youve purchased a cart program hire a web design firm to develop a front end for your store and integrate it into the cart. This approach can often work out much cheaper than hiring a development firm to build an entire ecommerce site.
Key to success
Keeping large amounts of stock is costly and adds to your businesses risk. Start out carrying no stock and operating on a pure JIT (Just in Time) system - it raises your transport costs but is necessary. Once youve gauged popular demand keep a small stock of regularly sold items.
Gauge your websites efficiency and trustworthiness by the amount of automated transactions is processes. Initially when your websites trust factor is low youll have to manually process the majority of orders and deal with clients directly. Enhance your stores credibility by purchasing a security certificate from Thwarte or through your hosing company.
Marketing
There are many ways to market an online store, the most effective of which is Google Adwords or Yahoo Overture. These pay per click (PPC) services make up the bulk of most online retail stores marketing campaigns. If youve never run a PPC campaign before its a good idea to buy a book and learn about PPC before starting your store having read countless PPC books I recommend Perry Marshall.
Final word
A badly maintained store can quickly turn browsers away. Keep your stock up to date as new products are released and prices change. Monitor sales figures and adapt your product range to sales trends.

There are several different methods of finding legitimate paid surveys. Some of them I would recommend, and some of them could lead you to getting scammed. So to help you out, Im going to talk about some of the different ways you can find paid surveys.
The first method of finding paid surveys is through internet pop-ups. Youve probably seen them. A pop-up will come up telling you that you can earn X amount of dollars for filling out paid surveys.
Some of these surveys are legitimate, but be careful. Some of them just collect your information and use it to sell to marketing firms. These marketing companies will then bombard you with junk mail, to your home as well as your inbox, if you have given them your home address. Fortunately, this sort of thing is becoming rarer now.
Another popular option is the paid survey database sites. These sites basically act as a middleman between you and the real paid survey companies. They collect the website addresses of places you can fill out paid surveys, and charge you either a one off fee or monthly charge to access their database.
Now, some of these sites can be useful. Especially if they also provide help and advice, and maybe even software tools to help you succeed with paid surveys. But the majority of them are worthless, and just take your money in exchange for the addresses you can find elsewhere for free.
The final option Ill talk about is the free paid survey sites. These sites are like the paid databases, only they give their information away for free. Usually the links are what is known as affiliate links. The site owner will make a commission for getting you to sign up. This is fair, because they are usually unbiased (because they dont make much from you signing up anyway) and they did give you the information for free, unlike the paid survey databases.
This can be a good way to find paid surveys sites, especially if youre just getting started with making money online. After a few months of doing paid surveys youll soon realise that most of your surveys will come from just a handful of sites. It will be these sites that youll want to focus on mainly anyway.
So in conclusion, try not to spend any money for something that you could find for free. As long as you do your due diligence before spending your money or giving away your information, you should be able to avoid the scams and make some good money with legitimate paid surveys.

Own and operate your own directory. Earn money as a webmaster.
There are two basic types of directory.
1. Website Directory - A website that provides categorized listings of other websites.
Are you familiar with web directories? Web directories are a great way to earn extra money. Simply put, you build a nice looking and useful directory and other webmasters submit their sites to be listed by you. They do this so they can get more potential traffic and to get an inbound link to help with their search engine rankings.
THIS IS IMPORTANT - If you are only interested in making money without effort don’t do this. Running a directory does take time and dedication.
Yes, there is money to be made here, provided that you observe the following:
You should be interested in providing a useful and informative site and you need to practice applicable search engine optimization methods. Specifically, you must be aware of your keyword density, proper coding, and the building of quality inbound links.
The better that you design and promote your directory the more money you will earn.
As PR (Page Rank) updates you will see higher and higher rankings (assuming that you follow the preceding instructions). The better your directory ranks in the search engines the more you will be able to charge for links.
Many directories offer free listings and you may be advised to do so as well - at least in the beginning when your PR, traffic, and inbound links are low. You are able to offer premium or featured listings at a price. Featured listings vary widely in price - usually, but not always, in relation to Page Rank and traffic.
Earn money with Google Adsense tm. I see earnings everyday from the Google advertisements on my directories and you can too. Any other affiliate that offers appropriate ads could also be promoted on your directory.
You can make a specialized directory (niche) or a general one.
If you have a special interest or hobby why not create a niche directory. A niche, or Topical, directory centers around a common theme. Themes can range from animals to real estate with a nearly unlimited number of topics.
General directories have wide ranging categories.
2. Article Directory - A website that provides free use articles and content. Articles are categorized in the same way as in a Website Directory.
Article Directories operate in much the same way a website directory does. The difference is that you are providing categorized articles.
There are both General and Niche Article Directories.
Of course you are wondering how much all of this will cost.
There are scripts available that will run your directory. There are some really good ones and many are free. You don’t have to be an HTML or PHP expert. Most everything is able to be controlled within an admin control panel once your script is installed and setup. If you cannot install and setup a php script on your server, installation and setup is available. If you are comfortable with php and MySql you will be able to upload and install your directory. You may or may not need assistance in setup and configuration, but if you do it’s available.

You have probably heard of people making thousands of dollars a month or even a day using Google Adsense alone. You even have built a website and stuffed it with Adsense thinking that it’s going to make you rich. As a matter of fact, building an Adsense site that generates a huge profit is not an easy job. There are many aspects that go into building a money making Adsense site.
First of all, you need to know how Google Adsense works. Individuals like you and me, or even companies, can use Google to advertise their products. The program where you can create your ads is called Google Adwords. Since there are many people creating ads using this system, Google needs help from others to put their ads on their sites. This is the reason why they created Google Adsense.
The main problem with this great program is that a website owner does not get paid simply buy placing the ad on his page. He needs visitors to click on the ads in order for him to make money. There are many techniques and key factors that help optimizing your page to get the maximum click through rate.
First, you need to build your website around high paying keywords; these are used by advertisers to create their ads. Believe me, if you search the net to find high paying keywords you’ll stumble into lots of scam and very expensive informational marketing products that claim to have lists or softwares that give you that kind of information. Thankfully, there are some softwares which actually work and are updated in real time.
The second key factor to your success is to build your site around the ads in such a way where they should get the maximum click through rate. There are many courses and books published about this kind or technique. I found videos to be the best recourses for this kind of information.
The third and last but not least key factor is to have as much Traffic as you can get to your website. This is done in many different ways. First you can submit your sites url to the search engines such as Yahoo and Google, the problem with this technique though is that it might take months for your site to be listed, and even then who knows where it would show up when people search for its keywords. For example, it might show up in the 100th page, this is why I personally don’t recommend doing this because it’s a waste of time.
Second, which is a must do is to do like what I’m doing here and write an article and submit it to article directory sites such as Ezinearticles.com, Goarticles.com, & Searchwarp. What you need to do here is to place your sites url in the article so after it is published people can see it and click on the link to go to your page.
Finally, you can increase traffic by using SEO, search engine optimization, softwares that are designed specifically for this kind of task. You just plug in your sites url into the program and let it do the rest.
I hope this helps many of you struggling with Google Adsense to be able to maximize your profits in a very short period of time.

The end of the month seems to come more quickly when you’re out of funds. Suddenly, the bills have mounted up and you have no idea how it all got to be so bad. Just when did you get behind on your payments? What you need to know is how to make money - fast. Can such a thing be done?
There are ways to make a quick buck in this world if you know how to find them. When you need to know how to make money fast, look first to the Internet. Fortunes have been made (and lost) in a virtual world that we know as "online." When you need to make money fast, get online.
Assess your strengths and skills. Are you a good gambler? A good writer? A fast typer? Whatever skills you have, you can usually turn your talents into a money-making venue when you use online tools. When you need to know how to make money fast, there’s a whole world of online opportunity out there. If gambling is your things, there’s a huge variety of online web sites where you can gamble (mostly playing poker and Blackjack) to earn income, and you can get those funds that same day you win them.
For other skills, such as quick typing fingers or a pleasant phone voice, look to Internet job boards for freelancing and work-from-home opportunities. Look on job boards for this, not on search engines. If you try to directly look for work through search engines, you’re going to run into a fair amount of Internet scams. You want to know how to make money fast, not waste your time - so go to job boards when you’re looking for gainful Internet employment of the freelancing or work from home variety.
You can even make money fast by having your own web site. Affiliate programs (they’re free to join) increase your traffic and give you a bit of money, besides. If you know how to design a web site, this can be a great way to earn income by doing practically nothing. Many people know that having a web site is how to make money, fast - if you know how to design a web site. You can get a site for free on the Internet, sign up to some affiliate programs, and hopefully reap the rewards.
Want to know how to make money fast? Get online, where a world of opportunity awaits.

VoIP services are making waves throughout the business world. You may be curious to find out what all the hype is about. VoIP is new telecommunication services that allow you to send and receive phone calls via the internet rather than using a traditional phone line. The system has been widely marketed in the business sector. It is becoming increasingly popular in homes as well, replacing regular phone services.
Your VoIP services are based on computer-to-computer calling. People are choosing to change to VoIP from their regular phone service because of the quality enhancement of the product. Local calls, long distance calls, and even International calls come in very clear. The higher the speed of your internet service, the clearer your calls will be. At least 64 Kbps are required. A bandwidth of 128 Kbps will provide you with top of the line service results. Your VoIP provider can assist you with determining your Kbps as well as recommend any updates that might provide you with better service.
Some are skeptical to use the VoIP system because they are worried about the reliability of the system. In the past, if the power went out, then the system wouldnt work. I can definitely see why that would be a concern. In a time of emergency, you need to feel comfortable knowing you have phone access to call for help
The solution to that problem is the introduction of a smart system. This system is a tool used to redirects phone calls to a different number, if the system detects your phone system is not responding. Incoming calls will be transferred to your required alternative during such occasions.
Other than the quality of the product, the price is a big seller. You can choose the options you want to use including caller ID, call waiting, and call forwarding. Types of plans include basic service, best value, unlimited access, and business plans. There are no long distance charges. This means you can make out of town and International calls at no additional cost. This alone is a great selling point, especially for businesses that often end up with huge phone bills on a monthly basis. For those wanting to maintain a budget, knowing how much your phone bill will be on a monthly basis is an added bonus. In addition, the cost of VoIP with all the features and long distance access is cheaper than most people were already paying for regular home phone services.
The Internet is a valuable resource for finding a VoIP provider in your area. There are several good information sites. You can get specific questions answered, review the types of plans, and look at the phone styles available. If the trend continues, then VoIP may soon replace home phone service plans worldwide. Look out, there is another huge technological change for most of us on the horizon!

You can hardly log on to the Internet, watch TV, or talk to your friends without hearing about MySpace these days. Many celebrities maintain MySpace pages, and in some cases celebs have increased their popularity through MySpace efforts. What they can do, you can do. Want to know how to make your own MySpace layout? The wait is over and the answers are finally here.
First, if you want to know how to make your own MySpace layout, log on to MySpace. Create an account (it’s free, and they won’t fill your mailbox with a ton of useless garbage - really) to get your MySpace page up and running. MySpace is actually a pretty user-friendly site, and you can always check your MySpace layout (even in the middle of editing) to see how it’s turning out.
Once you’ve created your MySpace account, it’s time to learn how to make your own MySpace layout. The good news is that MySpace supports html. The bad news is, you can’t change the headers they provide. You’ll fill out a form to begin your MySpace page, with headers like "I’d like to meet" and "Interests." While you can’t change these headers, you can leave some fields blank so that those headers won’t appear (at all) on your MySpace page.
By using html, the Internet language, you can determine colors, font sizes, and even add images to your MySpace layout. Links are also acceptable, so you can link to other sites that you like or to your own homepage. If you want to know how to make your own MySpace layout, the only way to do it is to simply do it. Log on to MySpace and play around a little - it won’t hurt anything, and it will help you become more familiar with the site. Experiment and add your own touch of unique flavor. MySpace is not only very popular, but it can be a lot of fun, too. So give it a try, and learn how to make your own MySpace layout, too. Then you can say that you’ve finally joined the MySpace craze.

If you’re reading this, chances are you’re pretty much up to speed on how to use that mysterious contraption known as the internet. However, you may know someone who would benefit from a crash course in internet basics - maybe you have a mother-in-law who is intimidated by technology. Maybe your child is getting old enough to be introduced to cyber space (though, in most cases, your child could probably teach you a thing or two about computers). Maybe you yourself need to bone up on the basics. Whatever the case, a guide to the internet can be a handy tool indeed.
Though it is an entity that is used by millions of people, no one actually owns the internet. It is comprised of a connection of networks that are monitored, updated, and generally maintained in many ways, by many individuals and organizations, but there is no one public organization tasked with regulating the content or the rules of the entire internet. Most countries have their own policies on the sort of material that is legal to upload, view, or download.
The first thing you need to know about the internet is that you won’t be able to get to it unless your computer is hooked up to a modem or broadband connection that allows you to get online. With a modem, digital signals from your computer are translated to analog and transmitted through phone lines, on the other end of which is another modem that will translate the signals back to digital format. Modem speeds are measured in bits per second, and the faster the modem, the better the internet experience. However, modems are nowhere near as fast as a broadband connection, and are not often used by serious web surfers.
Broadband connections are available in several forms:
- Cable
- Satellite
- DSL
- Wireless
Cable and satellite are both available through your television subscription plan, and satellite is a good (but expensive) option for people who live in areas where other types of broadband aren’t available. DSL, which stands for Digital Subscriber Line, uses the telephone line and a digital modem. Wireless internet, or WiFi, uses radio waves to access the internet via a wireless router and PC card in the computer. Though WiFi is becoming more popular in homes, it is mainly used to connect to the internet in public places using a laptop computer. Areas in a city that allow Wifi access are known as hotspots.
The World Wide Web is the official name of the system of internet servers that allows users to access all the features of the internet, such as email and forums, on one interface by bringing the various features into a single system, so the user doesn’t have to learn commands for each different protocol. The Web is the most-used component of the internet, and is often referred to just as the internet. The internet is actually a separate entity, but is not utilized beyond basic Web use by most computer users.
The hypertext-based protocol used for the World Wide Web is HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP). HyperText is a document that has links to other documents. Links are usually seen on the Web as either a full web address or a linked word that is bold, underlined, or in some way highlighted. When the user clicks on the link, the browser takes them to that web page. Web hypertext is created with HyperText Markup Language, known as HTML. HTML tags are placed in the text to format the document for appearance (such as fonts, boldfacing, and italics) and to create links. Programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Visual Basic, Cold Fusion and XML further extend the capabilities of the Web, which is ever-changing and constantly being developed.
So many people connect their computers to the internet every day that there is no way to gauge exactly how many computers are connected. The computers communicate with each other via Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). A user’s computer, known as a local client, is given files and internet services via a remote server. Services provided include:
- Email
-
- Information resources
- Social interaction resources
- File transfer capability
- Interactive collaboration opportunities
- Real-time broadcasting
- News
- Shopping
- Games
- Video and audio downloads
One important aspect of online interaction is the etiquette, or, as it’s known, netiquette. There are certain behavioral guidelines that should be followed when interacting with people on the Web, and most of them are pretty simple:
- Don’t post anything online you would consider private. Remember that postings in forums and message boards are considered public, and have the potential to be posted in other places or spread around to other sites.
- Don’t post messages or send emails written in all capital letters. Typing in all caps is considered the equivalent of shouting online, and could give the wrong impression and irritate many people.
- When posting on a forum or commenting on a thread, stick to the topic and don’t advertise your business, website, community, or other venture. This is akin to spamming, and most users do not take kindly to it.
- If you have questions about a specific site or forum, read any posted FAQs before emailing or posting your question so as to avoid being repetitive to community regulars.
- Learn your community before posting to make sure it’s a group with which you want to be associated. Follow the postings for a few weeks and read the backlogs to get a feel for the place, and make yourself known by commenting on threads before posting your own thread. This is called lurking and is an accepted way to become part of an online community.
- Try to steer clear of online fights, which are known as flame wars. Don’t attack or anger someone unless you’re prepared to take some heat, and if you do argue, it is very important to have your facts in order and data to back up your argument.
- Yes, there is a phenomenon of writing in abbreviations such as LOL (laughing out loud) or ROFL (rolling on floor laughing), and OMG (oh my god/gosh), or shortening words, e.g. ur for your, but they’re generally used only by a younger crowd, and are known to irritate most users. Especially users (of which there are many) who take seriously the rules of grammar, spelling, and punctuation. If you’re over age 15, it’s better to stick to plain English.
- The internet is rife with inside jokes. If you see strange references or things that don’t make sense, try using a search engine to find the origin of the reference before asking about it or using it yourself. Wikipedia, at www.wikipedia.org, or similar sites can be good resources for some of the more commonly seen internet slang like O RLY? and W00t!
The internet has made it possible for users all over the world to befriend each other, share interests and information, and expand their social horizons from the comfort of their computer desks. There is plenty of information available to help you get your online life started, such as Connecting to the Internet: A Buyer’s Guide, by Susan Estrada and The Internet for Dummies, by John R. Levine, Carol Baroudi, and Margaret Levine Young. Don’t let the stubborn computer or a fear of the unknown prevent you from becoming part of the World Wide Web - get online and get started.

Under Internet-Businesses-Online
We will continue to invest in systems, people and product expansion, each of which helps us better serve customers … For the rest of this year we expect to invest more heavily than we have in the past.”
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.com made this quote back in 1999. We are all familiar with Amazon and its tremendous success over the past several years. Even though Amazon is not as profitable as it would like to be, they definitely did one thing right – and that was to create one of the most recognized online brands in the world. Their website is one of the most well-known and trusted websites to purchase products from on the Internet and every product company would love to replicate what Amazon has done in just 12 years in business.
Looking at the Amazon website - how is it that they are able to sell millions of products while maintaining a website that is user-friendly, easy to navigate and generating millions of dollars a day in online sales? The answer lies in their core back-end applications and advanced content management (CMS) technology. If you really want to get into it, I believe Amazon is more of a technology company than they are a product company because of the number of advanced systems, developers, networks and applications required to run and operate their online business; however, I’ll leave the further explanation of this theory for another article.
Now let’s go back and review Jeff Bezos’ quote one more time – “We will continue to invest in systems, people and product expansion, each of which helps us better serve customers…” So what Mr. Bezos is suggesting is that in order to improve Amazon’s user experience, they must focus on investing more in technology that will allow them to continually increase the product selection on their website. As owners of our business, we should take this valuable knowledge and experience from Jeff Bezos and apply it to our own product-driven websites. If we want to increase sales, simplify our business, and improve our user’s experience, we must forever focus on product expansion.
Implementing a content management system for your website will allow you to easily maintain your products as you focus to expand your business online. A CMS will allow one or more administrators of your website to prepare and publish information, without the need to create and manage HTML coding. By using a CMS and focusing on product expansion, you will increase sales, enhance your user’s experience and minimize resources, while effectively and efficiently managing your product-driven website.
I highly recommend considering some type of CMS to help manage products on your website. If you want to stay competitive and develop a stronger business, you must operate like Amazon and continually invest in systems, people and product expansion - each of which will help you to better serve your online customers.

Under Internet-Businesses-Online
Regardless of which business you are from, if you were to practice just these simple steps on a daily basics. I am very sure you will see different results and lifestyle in yourself in just a few weeks.
So what should you do to maximize your time in your business?
Well first always make room for self improvement. It can be in a form of reading, videos or audio books that you can listen to improve on valuable skills or knowledge that can help grow your business. A good example would be reading books of successfully people like Donald Trump which is one of my favorites.
However, you only do this during your free time. What I mean by free time are times that you are on the way home on the bus or trains. The reason why I say so is because of the next thing I am about to share that will not only improve your business but your confidents too.
The next thing you can do would be marketing your business. There are many ways to market your business but personally I feel you should start on email marketing if you havent done so do it today! Why? Because it is free for all to use and it only takes you 10 minutes to sent 1 email. Some cases you can mass email with a program by typing only 1 email.
After marketing your product, you will want to find ways to actually improve your existing business by finding other methods freely available on the internet to market your business. This I would like to call it Business tools.
Business tools are very important when it comes to improving your business, especially when you can find a tool to actually automate the marketing process for you with lesser efforts from you.
Upon implementation you want to monitor also your pass processes of what you have done to check the marketing methods you have been using works for your business. Without checking you will never improve your marketing in your business as nothing for sure works until you have tested it.
So keep doing these 4 steps and after a few weeks, you will realize your business will be improved by almost 300%. Dont believe me, dare me and make a commitment to yourself for the next few weeks and you will sure see some wonderful results.
